Caribbean Medical School Accreditation

recognized by the WFME, IAAR, & ACCM

ACSOM is proud to hold accreditation from IAAR and preliminary accreditation from ACCM, both recognized by the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME). These accreditations ensure that our graduates can pursue residency training and licensing in the United States. Here, we provide a comprehensive overview of our accreditation status and the agencies that have granted us accreditation.

IAAR

Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating

In 2023, ACSOM was site visited and granted a 5 year full accreditation by the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating (IAAR) a leading international accreditation agency for the quality assurance of education founded in 2011..   IAAR is recognized as an international medical school accreditor by WFME for the country of Dominica.

IAAR is registered in the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR) and is a full member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA). IAAR is the first organization from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) recognized by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME).

ACSOM has now received full accreditation from the IAAR. Their rigorous accreditation process assessed various aspects of ACSOM’s curriculum, faculty, resources, and infrastructure, among other key factors. By obtaining full IAAR accreditation, ACSOM demonstrates its commitment to providing exceptional medical education and meeting the highest international standards.

By collaborating with IAAR, ACSOM has undergone a comprehensive evaluation process that includes rigorous inspections, thorough assessments, and peer reviews. The accreditation from IAAR signifies that ACSOM offers a curriculum that aligns with global medical education standards, which will prepare students for successful careers in medicine. This recognition also assures potential students and stakeholders that ACSOM adheres to strict quality control measures, ensuring that graduates are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their medical careers.

ACCM

Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine

The Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine (ACCM) is an independent, not-for-profit organization based in the Republic of Ireland. ACCM is invited by governments of countries without their own national medical accreditation body, to act on their behalf in relation to the accreditation of specified medical education programs within their jurisdiction.

ACCM has been fully recognized by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), officially stating the following:

“The Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine was recognized as working to standards that have been appropriately formulated and applied. The Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine is deemed to be credible in the quality of its policies and procedures to assure the quality of medical education in programs and schools that it accredits.”

We are pleased to announce that ACSOM has secured preliminary accreditation from the ACCM. This significant milestone further strengthens our commitment to providing exceptional medical training and ensuring that our graduates are well-prepared for residency training and licensing in the United States.

ACCM’s rigorous accreditation process closely follows the LCME standards for all US medical schools and evaluates various aspects of ACSOM, including our curriculum, faculty qualifications, educational resources, infrastructure, and overall educational outcomes.

The preliminary accreditation status from ACCM is an important step towards full accreditation, and reflects ACSOM’s ongoing efforts to meet and exceed the rigorous benchmarks set by recognized accreditation agencies. This accreditation status signifies that our institution is aligned with global medical education standards, ensuring that our graduates receive a comprehensive education that prepares them for successful medical careers.

As a result of securing preliminary accreditation from ACCM, ACSOM students can pursue residency training and licensing in the United States with confidence. This accreditation status indicates that our graduates’ education meets the strict requirements set by accrediting agencies recognized by the WFME, facilitating their transition into the U.S. healthcare system.

For more information about ACCM and their accreditation process, please visit their website. The National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation (NCFMEA), part of the United States Department of Education, has listed ACCM as “found to use standards to accredit their medical schools that are comparable to the standards used to accredit medical schools in the United States.”
