PORTSMOUTH-PICARD, Dominica, June 15, 2025 — The American Canadian School of Medicine (ACSOM) is thrilled to announce a new partnership with Desert Regional Medical Center (DRMC) in Palm Springs, California. As part of this collaboration, DRMC will serve as one of the primary clinical training sites for ACSOM’s medical students, providing them with access to a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience in a state-of-the-art healthcare environment.
Desert Regional Medical Center, a 385-bed Level 1 Trauma Center, has long been a cornerstone of healthcare in the Coachella Valley. With a deep-rooted commitment to advanced patient care, the hospital offers a wide range of services, including trauma care, stroke treatment, cancer services, cardiac surgery, and neonatal intensive care. Additionally, DRMC serves as the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the region, further solidifying its status as a leader in high-acuity medical care.
A Legacy of Excellence in Teaching and Training
As a teaching hospital, Desert Regional Medical Center has been instrumental in training the next generation of healthcare professionals, with residency programs in specialties such as Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, General Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care. Since 2014, DRMC has provided an exceptional educational environment, where physicians-in-training develop their skills under the mentorship of experienced faculty and medical professionals.
“Partnering with Desert Regional Medical Center marks an exciting new chapter for ACSOM as we continue to provide our students with world-class medical education,” said Dr. Ramin Ahmadi, Dean of ACSOM. “This partnership aligns with our mission to equip future physicians with the clinical knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience necessary to deliver outstanding care in a diverse and fast-paced medical environment.”
A Community with a Rich History
Desert Regional Medical Center’s location in Palm Springs is just as remarkable as the hospital itself. Originally the site of the glamorous El Mirador Hotel, DRMC’s history traces back to the 1920s and includes its transformation into a wartime hospital during World War II. Today, it remains a prominent health institution, dedicated not only to patient care but also to addressing the healthcare needs of a rapidly growing community.
Palm Springs, known for its sunshine, natural beauty, and recreational opportunities, offers a vibrant lifestyle that is both enriching and affordable. With numerous schools, cultural venues, and activities for all ages, the greater Palm Springs area is a wonderful place to both live and train.
Looking Ahead
Through this partnership, ACSOM students will gain valuable exposure to a wide range of medical specialties, working alongside seasoned professionals at one of the most renowned hospitals in the region. DRMC’s emphasis on trauma care and critical care, along with its robust residency programs, makes it an ideal location for ACSOM’s clinical rotations.
