Stanley White, PhD

Dr. Stanley White is Senior Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Dean of Campus at the American Canadian School of Medicine. A former Fellow of The Physiological Society, Dr. White brings more than three decades of experience in biomedical research, physiology education, student support, curriculum development, and academic leadership across institutions in the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Caribbean.

Dr. White earned his PhD from the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom and went on to build an internationally recognized academic career supported by senior fellowships and research funding from organizations including the Medical Research Council, the American Heart Association, the Wellcome Trust, and the Beit Memorial Foundation. His research career has included appointments and collaborations at Yale University, the Universities of Sheffield and Leeds, Ross University School of Medicine, and All Saints University in Dominica.

A research physiologist by training, Dr. White has published extensively in peer-reviewed biomedical journals, with work spanning renal and epithelial physiology, ion transport, potassium channels, sulfonylurea receptors, urea transport, cystic fibrosis-related epithelial signaling, and the molecular mechanisms that regulate kidney and intestinal function. His scholarship reflects a career-long interest in how cellular and molecular physiology can improve understanding of human health, disease, and medical education.

At the University of Sheffield, Dr. White served as Vice-Chair of the Department of Biomedical Sciences and was a co-founder of the Institute of Molecular Physiology. In that role, he helped advance the department’s research and teaching mission while leading innovations in physiology education and biomedical training. He later joined the University of Leeds, where he served as Director for programs in Human Physiology and contributed to curriculum development and enhancement initiatives across the university and more broadly within the United Kingdom and Europe.

Dr. White’s academic leadership later expanded into Caribbean medical education. At Ross University School of Medicine, he held several senior roles, including Associate Dean for the Center for Teaching and Learning, Associate Dean for Medical Sciences, and Associate Dean for Accreditation. His work at Ross placed particular emphasis on helping medical students develop the study strategies, learning habits, resilience, and lifelong learning skills needed for success in a demanding medical curriculum.

From 2021 to 2023, Dr. White served as Dean of Academic Affairs at All Saints University School of Medicine in Dominica, where he contributed to academic quality, institutional development, and accreditation-related initiatives. His leadership has consistently combined a scientist’s commitment to evidence with an educator’s commitment to student growth.

At ACSOM, Dr. White brings this breadth of experience to his role in Student Affairs and campus leadership. He is deeply committed to helping students navigate the academic, personal, and professional challenges of medical school while building the habits and confidence required for long-term success as physicians. Throughout his career, he has mentored more than twenty postgraduate and postdoctoral trainees, most of whom have gone on to independent careers in biomedical science and medicine. He has described this mentorship as one of the great privileges of his career and views helping young colleagues succeed as one of his most meaningful professional rewards.
